America’s Finest City Softball League (AFCSL) 

Welcome to the America’s Finest City Softball League (AFCSL)! Founded in 1981 by the San Diego gay community seeking a safe and welcoming environment for recreational softball, the AFCSL has grown exponentially from its humble beginnings at Serra Mesa Park. 

Our Growth and Community Impact

Today, the league proudly serves over 650 members across more than 40 teams. The start of the 2026 season will mark our impressive 46th Anniversary! 

The AFCSL is an active and proud member city within both the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA) and International Pride Softball (iPride). These non-profit organizations are dedicated to promoting amateur athletics with a special emphasis on the participation of members from the LGBTQIA+ community. The AFCSL ranks as one of the largest member cities in both associations. 

Seasons and Divisions

We offer year-round opportunities to play, including our robust Spring season (March to June, 10 weeks of play) and an active Fall season. 

Two Sections of Play:

Open Section: Open to all players.

Open Divisions: A, B, C, D, & E.

Womens+ Section: Open to all players except cis-gendered males.

Womens+ Divisions: C, D1, & D2. 

World Series and Tournaments

Regular season division winners represent the AFCSL as "Team San Diego" at the annual iPride World Series and ASANA Softball World Series. Additionally, other top teams from each division may also earn spots in these prestigious tournaments.

We also host our renowned ASANA/iPride-recognized annual tournament, the Autumn Classic, every October. This exciting two-day event brings one of the largest turnouts in the iPride association, with nearly 1,000 players from across the country converging on San Diego. 2026 marks the 38th Anniversary of this fantastic tournament! 

Governance and Involvement

The AFCSL is governed by a dedicated eleven-person Executive Board, the coach’s delegation, and several committees.
